| 5 / 5 | The kind I like
Randy F. (Wragford) - 13 May 2008 I like two types of book: those that MOVE or those that are funny. REMEMBER ME would fall into both categories. And yes, you're going to have to suspend your disbelief for this book, but what "good" book don't you have to do that for? Kinsella knows how to weave a tale, and REMEMBER ME is no different (in quality) from her SHOPAHOLIC series. Same great stories, same great endings. The plot is far-fetched but nevertheless adorable, and the main character is pretty much like those in her other books, but aside from that this one is a tad different. We open with a young woman (Lexi) who has a dreary job and life and one day gets bonked on the head, only to wake up three years later married to a gorgeous guy and a life that anyone would kill for. So, here's the question; the part of the book that's the "hook": how did all this happen, and WHAT happened in the last three years to bring this about? Well, for that, you'll have to read the book--no spoilers here. This is an enjoyable read, along the lines of SHOPAHOLIC AND SISTER (funny and thought provoking), ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY (outright hilarious) or BARRING SOME UNFORESEEN ACCIDENT (totally off the wall and a page turner). If you liked these books, you'll love REMEMBER ME. Okay, this may not be THE best Kinsella book, but you won't be wasting your money if you buy it. And it's not just chic-lit--guys will enjoy this also. Oh, it also has a happy ending--something you simply can't go wrong with, eh?... Read Full Review » |

Mrs M "Mrs M" (W Sussex, UK) - 22 February 2008 I was so excited when I heard Sophie Kinsella finally had another book out and was really looking forward to reading it. But what a disappointment, this was not in the same league as the shopaholic series or can you keep a secret etc. It seemed rushed and I didnt laugh once which was really disappointing as her preious books have had me crying with laughter - made me wonder whether she only wrote it to complete a deal she had with her publishers to be honest. I will not be recommending this one unfortunately.... Read Full Review » |
| 4 / 5 | Lightweight, but great fun
Julia Flyte (Seattle) - 26 February 2008 Lexi wakes up in hospital after a car accident. She's lost all memory of the last three years and is amazed at how her life has changed: suddenly she's married to a gorgeous guy, she's running her department at work and on paper her life suddenly seems perfect. But slowly she starts to realize that things are not quite as wonderful as they initially appeared to be. For starters, her best friends seem to have distanced themselves from her. And her husband Eric doesn't really seem to be her type. This is a fast and fun book to read. The premise hooks you in and some parts are laugh out loud funny (particularly when Lexi realises why her husband keeps making the Mt Blanc references). Okay, so it doesn't stretch your brain too much and you need to suspend your disbelief that she would have made some of the changes in her life, but overall it's still very entertaining. A perfect holiday read. This is the third Sophie Kinsella book that I've read, and as some other reviewers have commented, I don't think it's as good as her others. I still enjoyed it, and if you like her books you'll enjoy this too, but if you're new to her as an author I think her others are better. ... Read Full Review » |

K. Gardner "YoSafBridge" (Glasgow, Scotland) - 26 February 2008 I have read all the other Kinsella books and enjoyed them immensely, so naturally when I walked into Waterstones and saw this I got excited and immediately picked it up, sat down and got comfortable. After solid hours of reading I finally finished and I must admit my overall feeling of the book was disappointment. Throughout the book there seemed to be something missing that was always present in all her other books. Probably the main thing I noticed was that I did not find myself giggling or laughing like I usually do when reading her books. Also I always find certain favourite parts that I want to go back and read but all the pages of this book just seemed to merge together, each page seemed as exciting as the next but the problem was that the pages weren't actually that exciting. The storyline was an interesting idea but to me it just didn't seem to work that well. Not her best novel.... Read Full Review » |
| 4 / 5 | a very good list of ingredients...
Denhunt (UK) - 10 February 2008 if this book was a recipe then I would say that it has an extremely good list of ingredients, enough to make your mouth water. However...(there's always a but) I just can't help feeling that Sophie Kinsella has missed out on a brilliant storyline (rather than a good storyline which is actually achieved). Don't get me wrong, the book is good (I read it in a day) couldn't put it down; and this was largely due to the excellent ingredients, and the promise of something really really good. I just felt it lacked a certain something special, and after the shopaholics, one is quite right to expect the best from kinsella. The ending is good but does leave you thinking that kinsella was in a hurry to just end it (kind of reminded me of an essay where you are nearing the limit of the word count, so you just omit the really good bits to put an end to it)....
