| 5 / 5 | Great item!
J. Hunter (London) - 10 April 2008 I have found this item to be really great, and to do exactly what it is intended. It works really well as a DAB radio, stations are easy to find, and sound good (I am in London). I was worried before buying the idock as I wanted to use it with my iphone which is not officially supported. However, I have had no problems doing this, including using the remote control, and it sounds good, even with audiobooks. I should point out that I am not a music geek, so as long as the music sounds clear and not tinny I am happy! I have not had any of the buzzing at low volume that other people have complained of. I was really undecided as to whether to buy this or the intempo RDI which does pretty much the same job, but after I went to look at them both in John Lewis I decided on this one as it is more compact and the ipod dock seemed more robust. The other reason I like the Pure Chronos idock is that it is made to have as little impact on the environment as possible, both during manufacture and use. I do not find it to be overly light or flimsy as some of the reviewers have mentioned, and overall I am extremely pleased. I am not a big review writer, but this idock seems to have been harshly reviewed on amazon, so I thought I would add my very positive experience! Hope it it useful.... Read Full Review » |
| 3 / 5 | Poorly Made
Tina (South Yorkshire, UK) - 28 December 2007 Have now tried 3 of these and am now going to get a different make. Whilst the features of the machine are great - 4 alarms, autodimming etc. the actual build lets it down. The first clock had a wonky screen so all the writing was on a slope. The second had a high pitched buzz when playing any music - DAB, IPOD or FM - which only could be stopped by turning off the screen. The third has an even louder buzz when the display is on and the front facia is loose so I give up. ... Read Full Review » |
| 3 / 5 | Pure Idock Review
Gobucks "Gobucks" (London) - 3 January 2008 Good Points: - compact and looks good (in my opinion) on a bed side table. - great alarm functions, all four of them. - DAB features work really well. - easy to control ipod (and charges it up as well). - low energy usage in operation and standby. - clock automatically dims when lights turned off. Bad Points: - sound is okay but not great, there is a lack of clarity and bass with distortion at higher volumes. (UPDATE: turn off the DRC to improve sound quality - this would be worth another half star) - not cheap for what is basically a bed side radio. In general I am happy with it as it does what it says on the tin and is also supposed to be good for the environment. Just don't expect Bose sound quality. To see what it looks like in action go to youtube and put pure and idock into the search box.... Read Full Review » |
| 2 / 5 | Poorly made, poor sound, poor customer service
jetpac (Bristol, UK) - 16 January 2008 2 stars for a good ipod interface and easy to use setup. 3 stars off for poor build quality (mine had the high pitch whining noise), poor sound (don't try to play anything with a bassline) and poor customer service (despite this being "unfortunately" a known fault, I got no apology and was made to feel like I was splitting hairs for bringing it up). Mine's gone back. |
| 4 / 5 | The "whining" has a fix!
tc1712 - 23 March 2008 Bought one at Christmas and it suffered from the same whining problem reported here. I contacted PURE recently and received the response below. Returned the unit for repair and it now works great. Am impressed by the features and functionality. Extract of email from PURE: "Unfortunately we have we have been made aware of an issue where the Chronos iDock radio generates some low level interference when changing the display brightness settings from anything other than 1 and 9. This only happens when the radio is switched on and playing and the interference manifests itself in the form of a quiet 'whining' noise which maybe heard if you are in close proximity to the radio. We have identified where the problem lies and can offer to get your radio modified which will address the issue. We can make arrangements to get your radio collected from you, modified and returned to you at no cost to yourself. Our expected turn around time for this procedure will be between 5 - 10 working days."... Read Full Review » |
