Stargate: Continuum (2008)A feature-length adventure that bases itself around the universe of Stargate SG-1, Continuum makes the most of the increased budget clearly available, and serves up a hugely enjoyable, action-packed slice of science-fiction that makes you wish they'd all hurry up and make the next instalment.
Stargate: Continuum follows on from the earlier feature-length The Ark Of Truth, and it focuses on a staple storyline of science fiction television, the alternate timeline. In this instance, it's an Earth where the Stargate simply hasn't been discovered, and nobody has any knowledge of the crew's adventures. Wisely using this story mechanic as a basis rather than the main thrust of Stargate: Continuum, the action soon focuses on a well-realised attempt by the Ba'al to conquer Earth. It's exciting stuff, and while the credits arguably roll a little too early, it's very welcome work from the SG-1 favourites that builds up to a strong outing for all concerned. And in the midst of them is the returning Richard Dean Anderson as O'Neill, and very welcome he is too. Stargate: Continuum makes good use of both the extended running time that a feature offers, as well as the extra resources that were clearly available in front of and behind the camera. It's inevitably going to be enjoyed most of all by SG-1's fanbase, but there's plenty in here too for the casual science-fiction enthusiast. --Jon Foster |

| 5 / 5 | Should be a great story
Mr. M. Littledyke "matthew10691" (England) - 16 June 2008 Since the last film Ark Of Truth failed to meet up to the expectations of some fans but not me I enjoyed it, this film should be great it includes the return of Richard Dean Anderson as Gen Jack O'Neill & also includes 1 of scfis most used tools Time Travel, When SG1 accompany Ba'al to his execution Teal'c & Vala vanish into thin air not only does that happen the timeline seems to have been altered but Jackson, Carter & Mitchell don't seem to have been affected by the changes, they then return to earth to find out that the Stargate program never existed and Ba'al accompanied by his first prime Teal'c & Queen Qetesh (Vala) are trying to invade, so it's up to the 3 remaining members of SG1 to find the gate before it's too late. I hope this movie lives up to the hype. Roll on August ... Read Full Review » |
| 4 / 5 | A pleasing but predictable effort to continue the TV series
Andy Leslie (Swansea, Wales) - 3 July 2008 With the demise of all SG1's enemies, the writers have resorted to the old "alternate timeline caused by time travel" storyline. Ba'al's last clone is captured and about to be executed when he, laughing, tells SG1 and the assembled crowd that they're making a big mistake. At that, people start dissolving into thin air. Yes, his creator has killed their grand-dads, or the equivalent. Somehow, our heroes survive this holocaust and the storyline is how they try to restore the timeline back to "theirs". Probably the last thrashings of a tired franchise, this storyline is unsurprising and predicable, but remains great fun. There's no real "wow" moments here, but, like any fairground rollercoaster, although you may know what is coming, you can still enjoy the feeling as the certainties within the Stargate universe are stripped away and you drop into the void. I really liked the series, still follow Stargate: Atlantis and am generally a sucker for SF, so have no problems in recommending your purchasing this. However, new viewers should NOT start here, since, unless you know the majority of the backstory, you will be lost immediately. ... Read Full Review » |
| 5 / 5 | A good end to the SG-1 Series
J.S. "J.S." (Cork, Ireland) - 8 July 2008 I thought this film was beautifully shot in classic Stargate SG-1 style, I think the only comparison was the season finale of Season 7 regarding Special effects. The comedy and the banter among the characters kept your interest and the Special effects were simply amazing. Overall I thought it could have been longer, and felt it should have been, I think the Directors Cut will be a must buy. I feel this will be an enjoyable experience for Stargate fans. I must warn you that some characters tend to swear somewhat in this film. I would watch this before leaving your children watch it to make sure it is ok. ... Read Full Review » |
| 4 / 5 | Stargate Continuum - A Great Film with one tiny Flaw
Martin "Martin IK Kelly" (Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK) - 17 July 2008 A Brilliant Film (This could have performed well at theaters if MGM and 20th Century Fox were'nt Tight Gits) but the only problem i have in it is that the return of Jack O'Neill seems a bit less excitable then we all hoped it would be. First when they attend Baal's execution he is Stabbed in the Heart and has a fleeting 5 Minute Appearance in Antartica and is not seen again until the end of the film. I Know it seems rude but they made a big hoo-ha of it (Even the Cover says "Special Guest Star RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON") that The O'Neill man gets to do very little except give out some snappy one liners. But Appart from RDA's Lack of Screen Time in SG:C it is well worth the watch to see how they can fix the timeline. Bring on Stargate DVD-Movie 3.... Read Full Review » |
| 5 / 5 | Better Than The Ark of Truth
Ivor Geoghegan (Galway, Ireland) - 13 July 2008 Having just watched this, I absolutely loved this movie. The SG1 guys are back to the really good storylines. I would urge all fans of Stargate to buy this DVD, as the continued production of these straight to DVD stories is contingent on DVD sale figures. Here's to more great DVDs |
