| 5 / 5 | buyer beware!
Gordon Robert Stewart "Photobob" (Wales) - 2 October 2007 I bought a pair of cx300s a few weeks ago from Amazon market place for about £7, and to say that i was disapointed is an understatement - they were awful. i should of sent them back, but they did seem to improve a little, and with some cds they were almost acceptable, although the complete lack of bass could only be overcome by judicious use of the equalizer. last night, i was doing some online research, when i came across the possibility that they were counterfeit. i compared all of the criteria, and they passed every one, suggesting that they were genuine, but they still sounded awful. Today, i bit the bullet & bought a new retail set. WOW!!! these headphones are AWESOME. With the equaliser flat, there is bass by the shedfull, yet the middle & treble are bright & clear. the new ones look identical, but audio wise, they are universes apart. You may be tempted to buy cheap, and maybe there are genuine cx300s being sold cheap. Just don't say that you haven't been warned!... Read Full Review » |
| 5 / 5 | Brilliant!
M-C (Ireland) - 12 July 2007 I bought a Sony Walkman a few years back and for some reason whatever earphones that came with any CD or MP3 player I have ever bought never are able to sit in my ears. I bought these headphones for myself near Christmas and for the past 7 months I haven't had a single complaint about them. They fit perfectly in my ear because of the changeable ear plugs and the sound quality is fantastic as you aren't losing any volume. They don't fall out at all unlike others even when running or cycling. Well worth the money!... Read Full Review » |
| 5 / 5 | Great headphones (although they're not for everone)
TeeVee Stevie (Scotland) - 11 October 2007 These are the best headphones I have ever owned and at the current price I have no hesitation in giving them five stars. They fit right into your ear canal and are very comfortable to wear. The rubber bit that goes inside your ear is made from soft rubber and actually takes the shape of the inside of your ear so you can't really feel them whilst they are in. They are a bit strange to wear at first. You know you are wearing them properly when you get the same sensation as when your ears are all blocked up (to simulate the effect just stick your fingers in your ears). The sound is crystal clear with a thumping bass sound and everything I've heard through them so far sounds as if I'm hearing it again for the first time as I can hear things I never noticed before. Not only that but I'm now also listening to my music at a lower volume level than I was before (which can only be a good thing). I mainly use mine for the commute to work and the final plus point is that because of the way these headphones block up your ears the noises you would normally still hear whilst wearing other headphones (such as the noise of a bus engine or other passengers talking) is now barely noticable. However these headphones are not for everyone... You see, because these headphones totally block your ears it means you can hear everything that goes on inside your head that you wouldn't normally hear. So if you are wearing these headphones and decide to eat or hum along to the music then the music will suddenly be drowned out by the racket you are now making inside your own head (to simulate stick your fingers in your ear and eat or hum). As I said above I use mine for the commute to work so I'm sitting down or standing still for most of the time. I've noticed though that whilst walking (or running for the bus) you can hear the dull thumping noise of your feet hitting the pavement passing up through your body up to your head. As I don't exercise I can't say for sure but I can only imagine that the constant "thump, thump, thump" sound as you went for a jog would really distract you from enjoying your music (if you want to simulate what I am talking about then again stick your fingers in your ears and jog on the spot). So it's still five stars from me as I do none of the above and they sound amazing but if you like to eat, hum along to the music or go for a jog whilst listening to your headphones I would probably avoid them.... | 4 / 5 | You haven't bought fakes don't worry!
Fish Friend (Madrid) - 18 May 2008 I already owned a pair of these and came to the reviews to see if others' disappointment was similar to my own. Reading no end of reviews I learnt a lot, first I thought that perhaps I'd bought counterfeits or that as others had mentioned the much lauded "bass-driven sound" was a con. Bass was certainly absent on mine. Then I read further about "the fit" and others' experiences experimenting with the different sized rubber cups that come supplied. I played around with mine and low and behold the bass is there, rich deep sound. I know nothing about headphone technology but a millimetre move deeper into your ear releases all of the sound that these things were clearly designed for, bizarre, but a relief to discover the sound quality. On the down side as all humans' ear canals must vary a bit there may be some people who find it impossible to achieve this fit and can't enjoy the full quality of these great earphones. Once I'd achieved the bass sound I wanted I noticed the other common observation, when I move my head the sound of anything brushing the cables is magnified inside your head, if you clear your throat the sound is hard-wired directly into your brain too. The other point that perplexes people is one cable being longer than the other, the instructions with mine clearly indicate that this is to pass the left phone behind your head before inserting. And there is an advantage to this as it clearly does minimize the sound effect of any friction with the cable. My main criticism would be the great importance of achieving the correct fit in order to release the full sound and the poor instructions that come with them in reference to this issue. Perhaps in typical corporate fashion they didn't want to admit to any weakness in the product because they do require some tweaking to get the right fit. SUMMARY, great sound but you have to get them deeper into your ear, when you achieve this you will also notice that cable friction sound can intrude, however passing the extra long cable behind your head minimizes this....
