| 5 / 5 | great! real cinema experience!
Alastair M. Graham "xbox360guy" (United Kingdom) - 27 May 2008 This is great piece of kit. It truly feels like you're in a cinema. Just watched a bit of pirates of the caribbean and the quality is so much better! (upscaled to hd). the sound is amazing crisp and clear, and the sub-woofer is superb, enough to rattle the ornaments off your table. The setup is extremely clever and useful, it gives you options on where to put the speakers for maximum performance and so it knows where to blast the sound. You also have a great little microphone configuration thingy, where you put the mic where you'd normally sit (at ear level) and it figures out the right amount of sound for each speaker and finds out where to channel the sound. It looks great by the way, sleek and thin, but it's actually quite long. (the picture doesn't show that the actuall player goes quite far back) The radio is amazing! (gets a 100% signal almost everywhere i put it) I can easily play music and look at photos from my memory stick and plug my ipod touch in and enjoy music! ONLY BAD THING: This is a superb machine, and would be even better if you had a ps3 so you could use the player to get the gaming sound perfect. Sadly, it can't connect to the 360, so i've still got to use the tv speakers when playing my xbox. Theres just no audio in! But i may be able to use an optical splitter. (hopefully) anyway, i've got to say it's a must buy and for this bargain price you can't lose. p.s. the delivery was pretty decent, Ordered on the 20ths of may using super saver delivery, and it came on the 27th (at like 4pm) from hdnl. a great piece of kit! ... | 4 / 5 | Not all is as it seems
Stevie G "Me, Angry?" (North East England) - 16 July 2008 Having recently bought the Sony Sony KDL-37P3020 television and acquiring the RDR-HXD1070 DVD/HDD recorder as a long service award from work I thought I'd invest in a home theatre system to compliment them. A bit of research and reading the reviews on Amazon always helps and I ended up plumping for the DAV-DZ260 at £130 (£70 cheaper than Currys so that can't be bad). I'd been running the DVD recorder through a scart into the tv but decided to add a couple of hdmi cables. The DVD hooked up fine and merrily did its bit. Setting up the Home Cinema was straightforward as all of the speaker cables are colour coded and everything fell into place. Once I attempted to make the thing work it was a different matter. Switch the tv over to utilise the cinema speakers and - nothing. It wasn't until much later (page 59 of the operating manual) that any mention is made of a separate audio cable being required to carry the TV sound to the cinema system. To compound that the connections on the back of the TV (phono sockets for sound out) don't match those on the cinema system (coaxial). Yes I could have just ran it on a scart but I'd need to use the TV remote for all of the TV functions except sound adjustment when I'd need the cinema remote which kind of defeats the object I think. After much trawling through menus and settings on both units a phone call to the local Sony Centre solved the problem. Buy a cheap lead with phono plugs on one end and a scart on the other (£7.97 in Argos or risk it from the £1 shop). Now the system works as it should and films on the TV can benefit from the surround sound. I may be a bit naieve as I only graduated from a 21" CRT to the 37" flat screen last month, I don't watch DVD's left, right and centre. But I would expect something as basic as needing an extra cable to have the TV sound through the cinema system to be mentioned earlier and, more importantly, for Sony products to have matching connections on them. Never mind, it's working now after two days of trying.... Read Full Review » |

| 5 / 5 | Superb New Kit or Upgrade
Mark I. Cater "caterboy" - 11 June 2008 I upgraded to this unit to replace my old Sony SAV unit of 6 years old and have not been at all dissapointed in the performance. The only main reason for upgrade was to have the upscale functionality and previous to this purchase I had gone for the Panasonic range but returned as there is a constant low level hiss from the speakers when no sound is coming from the system. After checking alocal retailer for all models in the Panasonic range I realised this is by design. The Sony however is quiet unless you are obviously playing something (as I would have expected). Picture qaulity with the upscaling is fantastic on the 32" 1080i setting and the sound is awesome. This unit also comes with a mic to use to auto calibrate the speakers which works really well. A must buy item and it makes me realise that I should have not strayed away from Sony in the first place.... Read Full Review » |
