| 5 / 5 | Smaller than you think?
J. Harden "jharden24" (Sale, Cheshire, UK) - 12 December 2007 Another fine product from Sony. If you are looking for a small(ish) LCD Tv for a kitchen or bedroom you will not be disappointed with the 20s3000 series. I did loads of research & had a shortlist of Samsung, LG & Philips 19" sets & this 20" Sony. If you are going down the same route, go to a retailer first & listen to the sound quality before you make up your mind. These thin LCD sets dont have anything like the sound quality of traditional CRT TV's, there just isn't enough space to get decent speakers in. The Philips & Sony have some fancy electronics to enhance the sound quality & it does seem to work. The Samsung is the smallest (and some may say best looking) set but like the LG, sound quality is poor with no decernable bass, even after adjusting the sound quality in the shop. The 19" Philips is enormous thanks to its wide screen surround. It's substantially taller and only marginally narrower than the 20" Sony which seems the best sound and a brilliant quality picture - but you do pay for it at the checkout. I was also concerned about dead or locked pixels. I needn't haver worried, the screen is perfect. If overall size is important, go to each manufacturers website & check the measurements as sometimes the quoted hight includes the built in stand, sometimes it quotes the hight without the stand. You'll find that the size of the stand does vary considerably between sets. At time of writing, the best deal was at Amazon, and delivery was brilliant. Placed my order Thursday evening, set delivered 10am Monday - on standard free delivery. Excellent! Hint, dont automatically go for the black 20s3000. The dark silver 20s3020 won't show dust like the black sets do, particualarly in a bedroom where case static will act like a dust magnet! And at time of writing this, they were both the same price at Amazon! ... Read Full Review » |
| 5 / 5 | Sony 20"
Trevor "Trevor" (Comber) - 17 November 2007 Ordered from Amazon Tues night, delivered Thurs 12noon, super service, highly recommended. I have to say its a very nice TV for the bedroom or kitchen. Picture quality is great, you can view it from all angles and it still looks good. I tried a slightly cheaper 19" Toshiba and took it straight back as u had to look at it straight on, plus white light was bleeding from the edges. The Sony had none of these issues, and Im glad I spent more to get the Sony. Sound quality is adequate as is the variety connections at the back of the set. ... Read Full Review » |
| 3 / 5 | Not the same picture quality as its big brother
DrX (UK) - 13 November 2007 I bought this TV on the basis of an earlier purchase of the 32" KDL 32V2500U that has absolutely stunning performance. In contrast, the smaller version seems neither to have the picture brightness nor the definition of the larger one. Why? - finger trouble - don't think so,it's identical to set up as the big one. So, is this just the result of a 'smaller viewing experience', OR is this an inferior LCD panel? Despite all this the build quality and functionality are what one might expect from Sony - but a second HDMI would have been useful. Comments from other reviewers will be read with interest!!... | 5 / 5 | Expensive but worth it
J. M. Nicholls (Chesterfield, England) - 8 January 2008 For a bedroom this TV is ideal. Great picture quality, good sound variations including a decent virtual surround and perfect for HD gaming. Digital freeview added is very useful and it tunes all channels automatically. I find the contrast from very bright to deep black is fantastic with all shades noticeable. Probably too small for a living room tv but great closer up. Also quick delivery from Amazon as others have quoted already |
| 5 / 5 | Fantastic Bedroom TV
J. Insley (UK) - 13 December 2007 Our old Panasonic CRT Television has moved on - well into my sons bedroom actually - so it was time for a new television. After much deliberation - there are many TVs around the 20 inch size costing less than this - I decided to go for this Sony. Ordered on the Sat arrived on the Tuesday - MANY THANKS AMAZON . Packaging is good, easily unpacked. It took 30 mins to set up - most of that removing the old television. The set up is easy all connections- scarts etc easily accessed - the Ariel was slightly annoying but easy when thought out.- the self-tuning is very easy. Good remote control and the picture and sound are excellent. Only small criticism is that the menus could be a little clearer. The free-view was an added bonus. I would recommend this TV for a Bedroom or Small Room - a great unit worth the extra. ... Read Full Review » |
