R. Nigam "Rups" - 28 October 2007 After being tortured with this CD for the weekend, I can safley say that this collection of live music is best left avoided. The biggest problem seems to be that most of the bands want to do the most 'outragous' cover so we get God awful versions of Shakiras' "hips dont lie" and an even worse version of Girlfriend. Its bad enough that every band that seems to come out has the prefix "The" befor their name, but the fact that they all sound the same makes finding a good band impossible. This is why I refer to this CD as a sign of the times because I cant tell who's who without reading the cover. Most importantly the songs feel lazy only bands like Coldplay really try to produce somthing good. Poor quality on some songs is also an issue backing singers sound like they're in another room sometimes (perhaps the live toilet?) Overall this is a pretty poor example of the bands that you must follow playing songs that are mostly awful to begin with, things get pretty bad when bands cant even play their own songs properly (Fratelies) Music shouldnt be about being told whats cool it should be about finding something you like for yourself and this is reflected in bands and "artists" with no talent producing anything at poor quality safe in the knowlege that people will buy whatever it is because they feel they need to buy it. ... | 4 / 5 | Love Live Lounge
Muso "Music Luvver" (Scotland) - 28 December 2007 As an avid listener to Live Lounge while at work I got this as a Christmas pressie and was over the moon. Lets just say the Live Lounge separates the men from the boys and the girlies from the ladies. On Radio 1 it always throws up some surprises. One example is 30 Seconds to Mars (too Emo for me) doing Kanye West (who I loathe with a passion), combine the two together and you get the best track on this CD! Much better than the original. Nelly Furtado sounding pretty darn good as well is another surprise. Kings of Leon sound like a recording and Jo Whiley did say on SEVERAL occasions that it was NOT a recording! Perfection! Jose Gonzalez and Damien Rice words cannot describe! Gossip-amazing (Avril take note!!) To sum up, great in most parts, highlights being: Gossip (that girl got voice) Foo Fighters (best live band in world) Kings of Leon (2nd best Live band in world) Jose Gonzalez (silk) 30 Seconds to Mars (Wow.. surprising, he can sing too) Paolo Nutini (just has to open his mouth and that comes out) Robyn (touching) Arctic Monkeys (perfection) The View (intelligble!!) Dizzee Rascal (Sharp) Damien Rice (What u would expect from DR) But there are a few ropy tracks: Avril Lavigne (girl cannot find the notes!!) Mika (cringe!!) The Fray (what is that all about??) Maroon 5 (yuch!) Maximo Park (Eh???? Not even same song) All in... worth a purchase. ... Read Full Review » |

J. Yates (Ypsilanti, MI USA) - 5 November 2007 The first volume of Radio 1's Live Lounge provided fans of this afternoon delight with almost all of their favourite performances and makes a great novelty addition to anyone's collection. Unfortunately, this follow-up doesn't reach the same heights and is quite obviously cashing in on prior success rather than striving for quality. A number of the tracks are decidedly dredged from the bottom of what must've been a pretty empty barrel (The Scientist by Avril Lavigne? Girlfriend by The Arctic Detectives...I mean Pigeon Monkeys...no, I mean terrible terrible terrible). However, in between these poor examples for live performances are some great covers and original tracks. If you liked the first Live Lounge collection, you will probably like most of this, but do be prepared for disappointment. Finally, can people stop reviewing things they've never even listened to? We can all rate something based on the sodding track listing and make random observations like "looks pretty good" and "it's got Arctic Monkeys on so it must be awesome" (actually, that cover is pretty good, but still).... J. Burley (UK) - 6 October 2007 On lineup alone, this looks collection looks to be as good as the original. It's variety is sure to please most (non cheese) pop fans, and when you get 40 tracks less than a tenner, it's hard to complain. I would like however, to make a suggestion, why not put all the cover versions on one disc, and all simply live versions on the other? |

Mr. R. C. Auty "Trancewarriors" (England) - 8 November 2007 The Live Lounge always throws up the occasional beauty, and there are a few here. Ironically Valerie, by Amy makes me cover my ears, screechy! But most of the rest are fair to excellent. Worth a shot though, better than the first one. |
